Moose Jaw mayor Fraser Tolmie sends letter to Trudeau over gas plant

Moose Jaw’s mayor wants a new natural gas power station in his city to be grandfathered by the federal government.
Fraser Tolmie has written a letter to the Prime Minister in which he makes that request saying it was initiated and planned for prior to a change in federal regulations.
Tolmie says it is a move that has to be made considering the time and investment already put in.
“When you’ve invested significant money in a project that has already been announced and then the rules change, we believe the timelines don’t fit in so the common sense solution is to grandfather the project.” Tolmie said.
The project was originally announced in December of 2018 with the federal government announcing six months later that carbon tax regulations for natural gas plants would apply to any new plants starting after 2021. That resulted in SaskPower putting the project on hold.
