SUMA collects concerns for federal election candidates

The Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association has a list of concerns for federal election candidates.

An association survey pegged taxation as the number-one concern of the 56 members who took part. Public Safety was next at 20 percent.

President Gordon Barnhart is calling for face-to-face meetings with future federal decision makers to discuss areas such as taxation and infrastructure.

Barnhart also advocates the reinstatement of the Joint Emergency Preparedness Program.

He says the cost sharing plan between federal, provincial and municipal governments to buy emergency equipment like the jaws-of-life and fire trucks was cut by Ottawa.

Barnhart points out life-saving equipment wears out over time and needs to be replaced.

The federal election is slated for October 21st.
