RCMP confirm one person has died after a collision between a semi and an SUV on Highway 16 near Springside.

Police were called to the scene at about 8:00pm Thursday.

Initial investigation revealed the semi was driving westbound when it collided with an eastbound SUV.

The driver of the SUV was killed and the semi driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries. The driver has since been released from hospital.

The highway was closed until about 6:30am Friday.

RCMP say officers are trying to identify the deceased and notify their next of kin.

The investigation is still ongoing.
