What was (or is) your wedding song?

Last weekend I attended a bachelor party for one of my closest friends from high school and his soon to be lovely bride. They’ll tie the knot in just a few weeks in Lumsden, one of the most scenic places in the province.

It got me thinking about all those great wedding songs over the years that couples used for their first dance. One of the most popular that comes to mind is “Amazed” by Lonestar which turned 20 years old this past July! Hard to believe when you think about it, but it makes one stop and ask “I wonder how many millions of couples have played this song at their wedding?” Despite it’s popularity, I’m sure it holds a very special place in each of those couple’s hearts.

“We liked the song when we were recording it but I don’t know if we knew how big it was going to be. A lot of that was timing and the record label promoting the heck out of it and then just everybody responding to it as soon as they heard it, so it had legs as they say and it just kept going and going,” said Dean Sams of Lonestar at Country Thunder this summer.

“I Cross my Heart” from George Strait and “I Give You my Word” by George Fox are also great wedding songs. Of course, they don’t always have to be slow country ballads. Sometimes it’s a pop or rock song that holds a special meaning to them. Perhaps, it’s a song that they danced to when they first met years earlier or, in some cases, it’s a self penned song just for the wedding.

At any rate, congratulations to my great friends Greg and Jessica and to all those couples about to get hitched this fall. Crank the music, smile, and make some memories!
