Hail damage claims to crops in Saskatchewan have trailed off during August

Crop damage claims from hail across Saskatchewan have tapered off during August.

The president of the Canadian Crop Hail Association, Rick Omelchenko, describes storm activity as spotty with 300 prairie claims in mid-August.

He says the communities in Saskatchewan affected include Yorkton, Elrose and Nipawin, with hail stones ranging in size from pea to golf ball.

Omelchenko says hail claims are a bit above average this summer and most June claims have been completed, July claims are at 75 percent and August 10 percent completed.
