Late August hail claims reach 700 across the prairies

Hail storm activity in Saskatchewan is being called sporadic for late August.

Canadian Crop Hail Association President Rick Omelchenko says there were 700 hail claims for crop loss across the prairies in the last two weeks of August.

He says many of the claims were in southern Saskatchewan.

He says the storms affected various areas including the communities of Mossbank, Oxbow, Kindersley and Yorkton.

Omelchenko says damage was minor to severe from pea-sized hail.

He says some storms had accompanying rain and the damage was less severe to ripening crops.

He says hail damage claims are slightly above average for the summer and adjustors are busy trying to settle claims.
