Regina’s hospitals will be receiving a boost for their aging surgical booms thanks to a local company.
Yara Belle Plaine has pledged a $500,000 match for community donations to the Hospitals of Regina Foundation’s Surgical Campaign. The pledge is made possible through Yara Belle Plain’s Surgical Fund.
“We are committed to supporting causes that make life better for our employees, their families, and our communities,” said George Pohorelic, the president and plant manager for Yara Belle Plaine.
The funds raised from this initiative will help replace surgical booms that are more than 30 years old at the Pasqua and General hospitals in Regina.
Surgical booms allow for safer use of medical gases like oxygen and anesthesia.
The foundation has set a goal of raising $3 million from the campaign to upgrade their surgical suites at both hospitals.
In 2018, nearly 27,000 surgeries were performed in Regina’s hospitals.
