High Impact Wrestling company is shutting down next month.
The Regina-based professional wrestling promotion will have cancelled a September 20th event in Regina and a September 27th event in Saskatoon, and instead will be having one last event at the Hungarian Club in October.
Owner Mike Roberts said there are a couple of reasons why High Impact is closing, one being that he doesn’t have the time or finances to give the shows what they deserve.
“The shows have gotten quite expensive, and I don’t have the time or the means to make the shows as good as they were,” Roberts said. “The other reason would be we were kind of working on a deal to make business better in the city in terms of wrestling. Egos were kind of getting in the way of everything, we decided that we were going to work with another group and kind of make things better for everybody so that’s on the burner now.”
Roberts said over the past 21 years, they’ve had great success and gained reach across the province.
“Anytime you watch independent wrestling in Saskatchewan, you’re going to see flavours of High Impact Wrestling; from the talent, to the way shows are ran, to the way shows are marketed, promoted,” Roberts said. “We’ve even got reach in other provinces now, where our guys are dominating in Alberta and started doing Manitoba as well, so you can see High Impact Wrestling’s influences across the board.”
Roberts says their final event will be their 6th annual monster brawl on October 25th.
“It’s a Halloween themed event, so people can come dressed up. There’s going to be a costume party, a costume contest, best dressed will get some prizes,” Roberts said. “We’re also going to feature ECW legend, the insane luchador, Super Crazy, he’ll be in action that night. You’ll see some old faces, some new faces, but it’s going to be one big celebration.”
Roberts adds those who already purchased tickets to the cancelled events will be able to use them at the October 25th show or get a refund.
