A new study says farm losses from Quill Lakes flooding surpasses quarter billion dollars

A new study says farmers in the Quill Lakes area have lost over a quarter of a billion dollars from flooding in recent years.

Farmers in the Quill Lakes area say the local flooding crisis is far from over.

The executive director of the Quill Lakes Watershed Association, Rita Marcinowski says the study from Dr. James Warren at the University of Regina shows a loss of $253-million from 92- thousand acres of productive farmland.

Marcinowski says the Watershed Association is looking for government support to reduce the flooding losses.

She says a first step is a $100-thousand dollar water study.

Marcinowski says a million dollar environmental impact study would then need to be done.

The U of R economic loss study covered the years 2012 to 2018.
