Plastic bags could become a thing of the past in Regina

Regina city council could place a ban on plastic bags at their monthly meeting Monday night.

Councillor Bob Hawkins will be introducing a motion asking for the ban saying it is something he thinks will be welcomed by the community as it will show the city they are doing something about the environment.

If the motion is carried, the ban would start in January 2021.

Council will also be looking at something that Regina motorists have been complaining about and that is congestion caused by road construction projects—-congestion that has gotten many drivers hot under the collar for various reasons.

A report from City administration will be presented which outlines different ways to reduce the problem during construction season.

Some of the ideas being presented include working 24/7 and lane reversals as was used during the lengthy repairs on the Lewvan this summer.

The report outlines both positives and negatives to the various ideas being put on the table.
