Saskatchewan Roughriders and Winnipeg Blue Bombers reunite to decide season series

The Saskatchewan Roughriders play their biggest game of the season Saturday night when they face the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Mosaic Stadium.

The two longtime rivals are virtually in a three-way tie for first place with Calgary in the CFL’s west, with both the Riders and Stampeders holding a game in hand on Winnipeg.

Head Coach Craig Dickenson said there’s a different feel in the locker room heading into this weekend.

“Our locker room was really quiet (Friday) during the walk-through,”Dickenson said. “Usually there’s a little bit of chatter, and you got to remind guys that this is a work day, but (Friday) they were dialed in and focused, and it was a quieter in there, a little more business-like.”

The Riders and Bombers split the last two meetings this year, with the Riders winning on a last-second field goal in the Labour Day Classic, and the Bombers taking the Banjo Bowl.

Riders Quarterback Cody Fajardo said with Winnipeg changing things up in the secondary for this game, it may take a few plays to figure out how their newer players react to certain situations.

“A lot of times, when you get new guys in there, it’s hard to just go right at that guy because he’s new, because there’s a lot of uncertainties, where I can watch a guy over and over and over for 12-plus games and I can see exactly his tendencies, it’s a little bit harder on these new guys.”

The Riders will have a major addition to their receiving corps, that being Jordan Williams-Lambert. He said he hopes he can remind Rider Nation of his abilities.

“I love the game, I enjoy playing the game, I know I can bring a lot of talent, ability and play-making to the game,” Williams-Lambert said. “If I’m able to display that, I’ll be happy with what I do this weekend.”

Kickoff is at 5:00 with the pregame show beginning at 2:00 across the Roughrider Radio Network.
