Glydon around Saskatchewan: Cultures to converge in Assiniboia (audio)

More and more families from all over Canada and the world are choosing to call southern Saskatchewan home and they bring with them wonderful traditions, music, and food for the rest of us to experience. The Assiniboia and District Chamber of Commerce will once again be showcasing many of those cultures, including First Nations culture, at their annual Ethnic Jubilee on October 19th at the Prince of Wales Curling Club.

“The last two times I’ve been involved with it we’ve had approximately 800 people throughout the day,” noted volunteer and event co-host Kathy Bergeron.

She added not everybody participating hails from the community of Assiniboia. Instead, they will be welcoming cultures and families from all over Saskatchewan to showcase and teach others about their music, food, and values.

“We have quite a variety of food vendors coming like Greek, Italian, Japanese, German, Ukrainian, Chinese, Filipino, East Indian, Mexican, and even some French pastries, proclaimed Bergeron. “It’s something you don’t want to miss.”

This is the third year for the Ethnic Jubilee which stemmed from the Festival of Nations event held years earlier in Assiniboia. Bergeron says the Chamber wanted to bring back more tourism to the area and over time has developed a great partnership with Tourism Saskatchewan to help promote this year’s gathering.

“I’d just like to thank all the sponsors from businesses in Assiniboia to make this wonderful day possible, including Tourism Saskatchewan. If we didn’t have the sponsors we wouldn’t able to host this wonderful event,” concluded Bergeron.
