Charges laid in Turtleford RCMP member shooting

Regina Police have now laid charges in connection to a September 24th incident in the Turtleford area where an RCMP officer was shot.

RPS took over the investigation, which saw 27 year-old Justin Yakimchuk unlawfully at large for a statutory breach of his release at the time of the incident.

It is believed the vehicle Yakimchuk was driving was reported driving dangerously through Loon Lake, Meadow Lake, Glaslyn and St. Walburg before being stopped by RCMP outside of Mervin. It is there that Yakimchuk allegedly shot an RCMP officer, who was injured, but is recovering in stable condition.

Yakimchuk faces 13 charges, including attempted murder, two counts of possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

Yakimchuk appeared in Prince Albert Provincial court Wednesday morning.
