Rams to miss playoffs for second straight year

The University of Regina Rams did what they had to Saturday afternoon in Edmonton

Needing a win to keep slim playoff hopes alive, the Rams got three touchdown passes from Josh Donnelly including an 80 yard strike to Ryan Schienbein on the first play from scrimmage as they defeated the University of Alberta Golden Bears 31-17 to end a five-game losing skid and put them at 2-5.

The Rams needed help from the University of Calgary, but they failed to get it as the Dinos were beaten in Winnipeg by the Manitoba Bisons 43-29 to clinch the final playoff spot as they will join Calgary, Alberta and Saskatchewan in the hunt for the Hardy Cup.

Regina head coach Steve Bryce says this was the team he had been expecting to see all year.

“I knew what we could do and I knew we could execute on all three phases of the game.” Bryce said. “Its bittersweet though because our playoff chances have ended, but we have no one to blame but ourselves.  We just hope to finish our season on a high next weekend against Manitoba.”

Regina will finish the season at Leibel Field on Friday night against the Bisons
