Well-known Saskatchewan curler passes away during childbirth

Saskatchewan’s curling community is in shock.

Thirty-year-old Aly Jenkins, the lead on the Sherry Anderson team that lost in the provincial Scotties final this year to Robyn Silvernagle, passed away unexpectedly Sunday in Saskatoon while giving birth to her third child.

Jenkins passed away after amniotic fluid somehow got into her bloodstream causing an amniotic fluid embolis, which is rare and often fatal.

The baby, a girl named Sydney, is in a neo-natal intensive care unit at the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital, and is in critical condition.

A GoFundMe page for the family had raised more than $90,000 as of Tuesday night.
