File Hills police cruiser hit during pursuit

A File Hills First Nations Police cruiser was hit by a stolen vehicle during an attempted traffic stop.

File Hills police say on Thursday they received a call to help the Regina Police Service find a stolen vehicle with suspects believed to be involved in a shooting earlier that day.

Members found the vehicle while patrolling the Carry the Kettle community and started to pursue the car, but it accelerated, made a U-turn and rammed the police car.

Police say the suspects got out of the vehicle and ran off, with it later being determined that they got a ride to Regina.

Officers say the driver of the stolen vehicle is well known to police.

The investigation is ongoing.
