Fajardo wins West MOP award

Cody Fajardo started the season as a backup. He ends the regular season as the Most Outstanding Player in the West.

620 CKRM has learned that Fajardo has been voted MOP for the West Division. The CFL will announce the results of the voting on Thursday.

Fajardo and Hamilton Ticats receiver Brandon Banks are the finalists for CFL MOP.

Upon joining the Riders, Fajardo had more career sneaks than pass attempts. He was thrust into action early in Week 1 when Zach Collaros got injured. In his first two starts Fajardo threw for 790 yards and showed he belonged as a starter in the CFL.

Despite not starting in the Riders final game, Fajardo finished as the league leader in passing (4,302 yards), threw for 18 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. He added 10 more touchdowns rushing, only two of them being QB sneaks.

Fajardo was named a CFL West Division All-Star on Wednesday. He was joined on the All-Star team by seven other Riders:

  • REC Shaq Evans
  • C Dan Clark
  • DE Charleston Hughes
  • LB Solomon Elimimian
  • Cover LB Derrick Moncrief
  • S Mike Edem
  • P Jon Ryan

We will find out if Fajardo wins the CFL MOP at The Shaw CFL Awards, Nov. 21 in Calgary.
