Proposals for organic waste program being sought by City of Regina

A request for proposals has been made by the City when it comes to a curbside composting pilot project.

The city is looking for a system to process food waste for 2600 single family homes. This will help when it comes to implementation of the program in full in 2022.

The RFP states the project will capture an estimated 700 tonnes of organic waste for processing each year.

There are currently no regulations for composting in Saskatchewan so the proposed system will need to meet Alberta’s standards.

Cost of this pilot, which would hopefully start next April, will be around $3.5 million dollars. Once the program is fully implemented, it will cost just under eight million a year.
