Regina’s Wesley United Church Choir invited to perform in New York City

A Regina church choir will be making its way to Carnegie Hall next month.

The Wesley United Church Choir will be performing a holiday medley in New York City as part of Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY). The performance at Carnegie Hall will take place on December 2.

Choir Director Lee Stubbe said they didn’t even really apply to go, but someone in the congregation posted last year’s Christmas performance on Facebook.

“Four months later I got a call from New York from this person from DCINY asking if we would be interested in coming to Carnegie Hall and joining a bunch of other singers from across North America in this big, mass choir,” she explained.

Stubbe said the 17-piece choir is very excited for this unique opportunity, encouraging the group to practice extremely hard since September.

The choir has been working on seven pieces in that time with one of their songs totalling 11 minutes.

Stubbe added that performing in a prestigious hall like Carnegie is quite an accomplishment for the local singers.

“I’m really proud of them and it’s a bit of a feather in my cap that I led a choir that went to Carnegie Hall. I could not be happier about it.”

The church choir will be leaving to the Big Apple in a couple weeks where they will spend five days.
