Plans underway for future retirement living health centre at Manitou Beach

A multi-million dollar facility is in the planning stages at Manitou Beach.

Oasis Village at Manitou is a retirement living project and health centre that would be located next to Manitou Springs in the resort village.

Michael Byrne, who owns a cottage at Manitou is the founder of the project that would be developed in stages.

The first phase would comprise of 33 one and two bedroom units, while the second phase would anticipate an additional 35 to 40 units, with sizes and configurations determined based on the success of phase one.

The $40-million project was presented at a town hall meeting at the end of October. Byrne says it just makes sense.

“When they come to Manitou Beach, people stay at the pool or hotel here for a few days or a week,” he explained. “In the summer they do the same thing and go to the lake. So we’re taking it to a higher level.”

If all goes according to plan, they would break ground in early or mid summer of 2020 with completion of phase one in 2022.
