Saskatchewan hog producers optimistic looking to 2020

Saskatchewan hog producers are hoping for higher prices in 2020 as China ramps up pork imports after severe losses from African Swine Fever.

The president of Genesus Genetics in Oakville, Manitoba, Jim Long, says China has been buying Canadian pork because their herd has been decimated by African Swine Fever.

He says it will take a long time for a bounce back in Chinese hog production.

Long adds China is importing Canadian pork to avoid any food shortage and keep prices under control.
