Saskatoon City Fraud Case Closed

Case closed.

The city of Saskatoon’s Acting Solicitor says the 30-day appeal period has passed after an Ontario Superior Court Justice awarded the return of the final 345-thousand dollars stolen from the city.

The judge also decided last month there wasn’t enough evidence provided by another three parties who claimed they were unwitting victims of the fraud scheme to warrant a trial.

They had until Monday to appeal that ruling.

A fraudulent contractor bilked the city out of 1.04 million dollars last August by impersonating the C-F-O of a construction company and getting a city staffer to change banking information.

All of the money which was directed into the fraudster’s bank account has been recovered.
