Distracted driving numbers dropping in Saskatchewan

SGI’s traffic safety focus last month was on suspended drivers and unregistered vehicles which saw 1,106 tickets issued.

302 drivers were caught while suspended or disqualified and there were 515 offences for unregistered vehicles and trailers. A number of motorists were hit for driving without a valid license or not obeying their license restrictions, too.

SGI’s Tyler McMurchy says the highlight of the month was the number of people caught driving distracted.

“After setting a single month record in October, the number of distracted driving tickets for the month of November took a significant dip,” he stated.

Police handed out 653 distracted driving tickets including 560 for cellphone use. It’s the first time in nine months a single month’s total has reported below 700 tickets.

In contrast, October set a record number of those caught driving distracted at 1260.
