PA RCMP charge 19-year-old man with second-degree murder

Prince Albert RCMP have arrested and charged a 19-year-old man with second-degree murder after a 17-year-old succumbed to life-threatening injuries.

Police received a report of an injured 17-year-old woman just after midnight on Boxing Day at the Wahpeton Dakota Nation Health Centre.

Officers learned her injuries were a result of an assault which happened at a residence, prompting police to go to the home.

Upon arrival, RCMP located 19-year-old Zellall Highway with life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a local clinic where he was pronounced dead by responders.

An autopsy of the deceased man is scheduled for Monday.

Investigators were able to track down the suspect, 19-year-old Nathan Waditaka, at a nearby residence. He was transported to hospital after he sustained injuries during the assault.

Waditaka will make his first appearance in court on Monday where he will face charges of second-degree murder, aggravated assault and sexual assault.
