Regina man arrested after stealing vehicle, kidnapping

A Regina man is facing three charges including kidnapping, possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of a stolen license plate following an incident Friday night in the city’s north end.

Before 7:30 p.m., police discovered a stolen vehicle near McIntosh Street and Litzenberger Crescent with a license plate that didn’t match the vehicle and was reported stolen.

Police followed the vehicle until it was parked at the 6000 block of Rochdale Boulevard where a man exited the vehicle.

Officers attempted to make an arrest, but the suspect fled the area on foot and entered a different vehicle stopped at a red light at the intersection of Rochdale Boulevard and McCarthy Boulevard, where he forced a woman driver to drive him.

The vehicle eventually stopped near 5th Avenue and Retallack Street where the suspect exited from the passenger side. Police say the woman was not physically injured in the incident.

After fleeing from the victim’s vehicle, the RPS canine unit managed to track down the suspect and he was taken to custody.

40-year-old Larry Olson is set to appear in court on Monday morning on these charges.
