The Regina Pats dropped their first game of the second half of the season Monday night, falling 4-1 in Brandon to the Wheat Kings.
The Pats outshot Brandon 8-2 to start the game, but the Wheat Kings would open the scoring late in the first.
Pats Assistant Coach Brad Herauf said they didn’t have enough consistency through the line up and took to many penalties.
“We didn’t have enough guys going tonight, the guys that were going played really hard, our goalie played really well, we just took too many penalties and didn’t have enough guys pushing in the right direction for two points,” Herauf said after the game.
The Pats went a perfect 8/8 on the penalty kill, but also went 0/5 on the powerplay.
Herauf added they failed to capitalize on the offensive opportunities they earned.
“On those chances we did have I think we missed the net pretty much every time, we just didn’t work hard enough for our bounces tonight, we needed a break and we didn’t get it because we really didn’t deserve it,” said Herauf.
Cole Dubinsky scored the Pats only goal early in the third period, an unassisted marker at 1:57.
Regina (10-19-3-1) will be back in action New Year’s Day afternoon at 4:00 p.m. when they kick off 2020 at home against the Prince Albert Raiders (20-12-3-1).
