Member of Regina Police Service acquitted on assault charge

A Regina judge has found a member of the Regina Police Service not guilty on a charge of assault.

47-year-old Corporal Colin Magee had been charged with assault after an incident with a man in custody in September 2018,

In that incident, 42-year-old Lucien Gaudette was leaving cells after spending the night in custody. He was asked to sign some forms. Magee asked Gaudette if he understood what he was doing and then asked him to drop the pen he was holding as he felt the pen could be used as a weapon and thus was threatened.

When Gaudette refused to oblige twice, Magee took him down to the ground.

The judge felt Magee was in his right to do so thus exonerating him.
