The province’s information and privacy commissioner is going to be investigating a ransomware attack against eHealth Saskatchewan earlier this month.
In a release, Ron Kruzeniski says the investigation will among other things examine if there was a breach of personal information or personal health information, and if so the scope of the breach and the circumstances leading up to it. The investigation will also look at what if any measures EHealth could have done to prevent and contain the breach and what can be done to prevent further attacks.
It is not known how long the investigation will take.
eHealth says they have found no evidence that any confidential patient information was compromised and that they are working with a team from Microsoft to restore applications that had been shut down as a result of the January 10th attack.
