Sask. government encourages more home daycares

The Government of Saskatchewan would like to see more people start up home-based daycares in the province.

Gordon Wyant, Minister of Education says grant money is available along with professional supports and training opportunities to those looking to start up a home-based daycare.

Kim Taylor with the Ministry of Education says they would like to see more home-based daycares start up so they can provide families with the option of home-based care or centre-based care.

Taylor says they currently have 239 childcare homes in the province. She says they’re just trying to bring attention to home-based care and to get an increase in those starting up their own licensed home-based daycare.

Those looking to start up a licensed home-based childcare business have access grant money to help with start up and food costs, training and workshops, assistance from educated childcare consultants and government materials provided to parents seeking childcare.
