Echo Valley introduces ‘Skate the Park’ skating loop

Make sure your skates are sharp because Echo Valley Provincial Park now has a skating loop.

“Skate the Park” opened on January 18 in the Aspen Campground after staff decided they wanted to flood one of the campground roads to create a track. It allows visitors to the park a chance to skate through the trees and enjoy the winter air.

Robin Campese, executive director of visitor experience, says this gives families a chance to get involved with the park year-round.

“This was an idea actually from our park manager. She saw it, I think in Alberta, and thought it was a really cool, unique experience,” explained Campese. “Gliding through the park, through the snow covered trees, fresh air. She wanted to bring that here.”

Snowflake sculptures created by a Saskatoon artist will also be set up to take pictures with.

“Visitors can basically stick their faces in the middle of the little snowflake sculptures and take a picture. We would really appreciate it if they would tag us or used #saskparks when they did that,” said Campese.

The skating loop is free with the purchase of a vehicle entry for the day.

The track will be open until March 19 with weather permitting. Staff will be on site Thursdays from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturdays from noon to 4:00 p.m.
