Some days it feels as if there is something in one’s vehicle that attracts a traffic light to switch to red every time one pulls up to a specific intersection.
For me, the intersection that gets me every single darn time is Hamilton Street and 12th Avenue, downtown Regina. It doesn’t seem to matter if I’m travel southbound or westbound, it ALWAYS turns red on me. In the past three years that I have lived in this city I can count how many times on one hand it’s actually stayed green. I have given up on counting the times it turns red on me. There have been times I wanted to take my truck in for an inspection to see what the heck is in there that makes the traffic light go red every. Single. Time. Plot twist, however, this intersection also turns red when I’m in the station truck! I’m starting to wonder if my CKRM jacket is implanted with something to make it go red.
Recently a new intersection has started to cause me grief and it’s not far from Hamilton and 12th Ave. While filling in for Lewis and Evans over the past week, I’ve noticed how quiet it is on the streets of Regina at 4 a.m. and most lights on the major thoroughfares I travel stay green…except for Broad Street and 12th Avenue, downtown Regina. Yes, just two blocks east of my other intersection nemesis. Every. Darn. Time over the past week that intersection’s traffic light turns red on me and there’s NOBODY waiting to go from the opposite direction. I’m certain it just turns red just to spite me. We have spiteful traffic lights in Regina.
Has this happened to you? Do you have an intersection in your neighbourhood or on your way to work that turns red every time you come up to it? I really hope so, because I’m starting to think the downtown traffic lights in Regina are starting to pick on me.
