(Jamie) Please Tell Me I’m Not Dreaming

Yesterday morning Evans and I were talking on air about the most common nightmares that people have. Falling came in at #1.

Fortunately I didn’t have a nightmare last night. I actually had one of those wonderful dreams where I won the lottery. It’s not the first time I’ve had that dream either. It’s a great dream. I buy everything that I’ve ever wanted and travel everywhere I’ve ever wanted to go. I dole out money to friends and family members and donate money to great causes. It’s amazing how much I can do with all of that money in such a short span of time.

Unfortunately, the dreams all end the same way. Just before I wake up I’m saying to myself, “Please don’t let this be a dream. Please don’t let this be a dream.” It doesn’t matter how many times I repeat that phrase, I always wake up, look around and say softly to myself, “S***! Looks like it’s off to work again.”

I’ve met people and have actually known people who have won big chunks of money. We used to have a record rep who would drop by the station every week plugging the new releases by his record company’s stable of singers. Years ago, he and his brother won $1 million on a scratch and win, which of course, they had to split.

My wife works with a guy who won nearly $1 million on a slot machine at the Casino a few years back, but again he was playing with a friend, so it was another split jackpot.

The sister of a good friend of ours won $1.2 million on a VLT in a bar in Moose Jaw! Fortunately for her, she didn’t have to split that with anyone!

We have a lottery pool here at the station and we nearly won it all a couple of years ago. One number off from $60 million. If you listen to the station you probably knew that already. It’s all we talked about for months afterwards, and still do!

A couple of of weeks ago I was one number off of a $100,000 payday. It was the second last number that did me in. I had a 5 instead of a 6. Oh well.

One thing I’ve learned is that I have a lot better chance of winning the lottery while I’m sleeping!
