Silvernagle grounds out win over PEI to start championship pool play at the Scotties

Robyn Silvernagle still needs a lot to go right for her if she is to get into the Page playoffs at the 2020 Scotties, but she started play in the championship pool on the right note after an 8-7 win over Suzanne Birt of Prince Edward Island to put her at 5-3 going into a game Thursday night against Jennifer Jones and Team Wildcard.

Silvernagle had to watch as Birt attempted a raise take-out for the win, but she jammed on the shot giving Silvernagle a steal and a victory.

“We played a pretty perfect 10th end and we  got a couple of lucky breaks,” Silvernagle said. “It’s tough with the five-rock rule to make every shot perfect, so we executed well that end.”

After the afternoon draw, Manitoba’s Kerri Einarsson, Jones and Ontario’s Rachel Homan lead at 7-1 with Silvernagle, Northern Ontario’s Krista McCarville and Birt all at 5-3. Team Canada’s Chelsea Carey and BC’s Corryn Brown are 4-4.
