SGI is telling us 284 people were handed tickets for impaired driving in January.

The January spotlight saw 231 Criminal Code charges for impaired driving handed out for impaired driving with 53 roadside suspensions also being handed out.

Meanwhile, the number of reported distracted drivers was trending lower in January with 509 tickets issued last month with 405 for those being for cellphone use.

While impaired driving and distracted driving numbers are going down, the amount of those who are speeding continue to be high.

SGI says there were over 5500 tickets handed out for speeding and aggressive driving during January.
