Pats drop 8-2 decision to Medicine Hat

The Regina Pats kicked off a home and home with the Medicine Hat Tigers with an 8-2 loss Friday night at the Brandt Centre.

Medicine Hat took the early lead thanks to a goal from Brett Kemp two minutes into the contest.

In the second period, the Pats tied it up after Zack Smith found the back of the night for his 11th of the year. The Tigers bounced back with three goals in the frame, taking a 4-1 lead into the third.

In the third period, the Tigers went on to score four more. The Pats scored their single goal of the final frame on the powerplay.

The Pats were outshot heavily by the Tigers 40-20, and their powerplay was one for four. Donovan Buskey made 32 saves in the loss.

Head Coach Dave Struch wasn’t happy with the way the team played.

“Our players did it their own way, and that’s not the way we’ve played this year,” said Struch. “Unfortunately, it was selfish on everybody’s part.”

The Pats head to Medicine Hat tonight for the second game of the weekend home and home. You can hear the game tonight on 620 CKRM with puck drop at 8:30.

The Pats’ next home game is against Moose Jaw on Tuesday night.
