NDP calls on SaskParty government to shelve office building in Wascana Park

The NDP is calling on the SaskParty government to put a major office construction project in Wascana Park on hold.

Opposition critic Nicole Sarauer says the Brandt-CNIB building should go back to the drawing board because of public outcry.

Provincial capital commission minister Lori Carr says the concerns from the auditor will be followed to ensure a new home for the CNIB, Canadian National Institute for the Blind.

She says there will be two more open public sessions to hear from concerned citizens.

The NDP is also calling on the Moe government to bargain with the province’s teachers in good faith.

Opposition critic Carla Beck says classrooms are under funded and teachers have voted overwhelmingly in favor of job action.

Education minister Gord Wyant says talks are being held with a goal of reaching a new teachers contract and he is very hopeful a deal can be achieved.

He says a conciliation report will form the basis of the discussions with teachers on a new contract.
