Workers at Regina’s Evraz Steel Mill are getting some unexpected time off.

A cyberattack on Evraz’s North American operations Wednesday night is causing what the company says is interruptions at its Regina operation and as a result, temporary layoffs are being issued.

Evraz spokesperson Patrick Waldron would not confirm that the company had been hit by a ransomware attack, but he did say the problem is affecting the company’s e-mail with documents suggesting shipping information and the internet had also been affected.   Workers in Regina were apparently told to shut down all systems early Thursday morning.

It is not known how long the layoffs will be in effect for with Waldron saying the company’s I-T department is working as quickly as they can to restore all services and get everything running again.
