Pats drop overtime decision to Blades

The Regina Pats suffered a tough 2-1 overtime loss to the Saskatoon Blades in the Bridge City last night.

Despite two great chances in the first period by Zack Wytinck and Cole Dubinsky, the game was scoreless after one.

In the second, Colton Dach made it 1-0 Saskatoon.

The third period saw lots of drama as Logan Njihoff scored his 16th of the season with 45 seconds left in the game, and the Pats’ net empty.

In the extra frame, the Pats took an early penalty and the Blades capitalized on the ensuing power play. Kyle Crnkovic won the Blades the game, and earned them the extra point.

Spencer Welke made 37 saves in the effort and was named the second star of the night.

The Pats were outshot 39-33 in the game and went 0-3 on the power play.

The Pats are right back in action Saturday night when the Blades come to the Brandt Centre.
