Province looking to revamp immigration system

Immigration Minister Jeremy Harrsion met with Federal Minister of immigration Marco Mendicino this past week in Regina.

Their discussion revolved around the province’s interest in having more authority when it comes to Saskatchewan’s immigration system.

Harrison says they are committed to working in a collaborative way going forward in order to make the immigration system more effective.

“We’re going to able to come to agreement on synergies where we can work better,” said Harrison. “I think that we really do have shared objectives in this. We have shared understandings as the importance and value of migration, not just into Saskatchewan, but into Canada.”

He added that it’s also important to make sure both governments are not duplicating resources and administratively working as well as they can.
