It’s not news workers at the Mosaic potash mine in Colonsay wanted to hear.

The union representing workers at the mine say the company has offered their most senior members a buyout package, with a skeleton crew expected to be in place until the end of 2020.

United Steelworkers Local 7656 President Barry Moore says about 65 people are now being offered early retirement packages.

Moore went on to say that package includes one week’s pay for each year of service plus $35,000.
