NDP calls for daily reports on COVID-19

NDP leader Ryan Meili called for regular daily updates from the province regarding COVD-19 at a press conference on Friday morning.

Meili says information needs to be made available to support those who need to be tested or treated in a way that’s clear, obvious and high quality. Adding daily reports on the number of tests performed and the results will be key for public information.

“We also need clearer information for healthcare providers. How do they manage COVID-19 when it presents in their healthcare setting? Who to isolate, how to do that isolation, who to test, how to do that testing,” stated Meili.

“Make sure healthcare providers have the support that they need to provide the best quality care in the moment.”

The NDP leader called for changes to the 811 service so people who call with questions, get through to someone.

Concluding, by once again calling on the government to put together a committee of key leadership groups in order to put a plan together to respond to the pandemic, to prevent illness, treat people properly and minimize the negative the impact on the economy.

MLA for Saskatoon Centre and Labour Critic David Forbes requested assurances that people who choose to self isolate will not lose their jobs or wages also asking to ban the practice of employer required sick notes for patients with COVID-19.
