“Scaled-back” budget to be presented Wednesday

The economic impact of COVID-19 has had an effect on the Saskatchewan budget.

Finance Minister Donna Harpauer will deliver what the Saskatchewan Party is calling a “scaled-back” budget on Wednesday as expenses will be tabled, but not revenues.

Premier Scott Moe was asked by reporters following Question Period on Tuesday why his government is taking this approach.

“It’s important that the people of Saskatchewan know that we will be there to support whatever efforts are necessary as we traverse the next number of uncharted days and weeks,” Moe said.

Moe added he is prepared to run a deficit this year if need be.  It is expected the government will be in that position as it deals with COVID-19.

Moe once again re-iterated the budget will contain record spending in infrastructure with health funding also seeing a significant incrase.
