Meili welcomes state of emergency, but says more is needed

Provincial NDP leader Ryan Meili says the state of emergency declared by Premier Scott Moe in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis is good to see, but he thinks it should have been done earlier. He is accusing the government of putting politics ahead of people by bringing down the budget estimates and having MLA’s sit in the chamber when they knew of the added cases.

He also says there is a lot of grey matter which needs to be clarified.

“There was no clarity on what’s happening with non-essential businesses. “Meili said. “Nothing on daycares and when those will close. Still no information on non-essential dental services, which is clearly a high-risk thing to be happening at this point.”

Meili also produced a letter from almost 200 doctors in the province asking for businesses to reduce  “person-to-person” interaction by transforming or closing.
