Canadian Cattlemen seek aid package during COVID-19 pandemic

The Canadian Cattlemen’s Association is calling on Ottawa to provide a comprehensive aid package to producers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The CEO of the Saskatchewan Cattlemen’s Association, Ryder Lee, says his organization helped put together the proposals.

He says producers need immediate stop-gap support after prices look a nosedive in early March.

He says some producers were caught by surprise by the low price and the idea is to work with the government to address the issue.

Lee says the aid proposals also call for improvements to farm business risk programs like AgriStability, AgriInvest and AgriRecovery.
