COVID-19 fears have forced the Regina officials to cancel the April 24 and 25 Household Hazardous Waste Days. However the city is looking at alternatives so residents can dispose of hazardous materials due to the cancellation.
Citizens are now being asked to safely store their hazardous materials until the city’s next event and to not dispose hazardous waste in garbages or pour them down drains.
For urgent hazardous waste disposal needs, people can visit the city’s Waste Wizard to find alternate drop-off locations. Businesses may need to contacted first to ensure they can take the hazardous waste material at this time.
The city is offering these storage tips:
• Tightly cap all containers.
• Where allowed, store containers together in a large heavy-duty plastic container to prevent potential spillage.
• Ensure flammable products are in the recommended temperature range.
• Keep out of reach of children.
• Do a periodic check on the storage area to ensure no problems have occurred.
