It’s nice to see many of you are taking the social distancing instructions very seriously these days as we continue our battle against COVID-19. I’m not sure about you but while I’ve been social distancing I’ve learned to start cooking better, specifically learning how to season food. I’m terrible at knowing what seasoning works with which food and typically I don’t stray to far from salt and pepper and that’s about it.
The other night I decided enough is enough and I’ve been trying different spices with different things. Some time ago I bought some scallops at the grocery store which happened to be on sale. I’ve never cooked scallops in my life nor did I know how to spice them properly, but I figured there’s nothing else to do, I may as well learn. Did I ever surprise the heck out of myself!
I had seasoning salt, garlic, and butter and cooked it all up together in a frying pan. Well! What a shock…it actually tasted good. No, it tasted amazing in all honesty. I had to pinch myself to make sure I wasn’t dreaming this, that I actually made a delicious and somewhat nutritious meal. I placed those seasoned scallops on a bed of Basmati rice and threw it back like it was my last meal.
Now is a great time to start learning something new as we continue to hunker down in this battle and one is never too old to learn and try something different. Whether it be learning a new language, learning to spice foods, learning a new recipe, or just picking up a new hobby, it’s important to make the best out of a bad situation. Take care and keep up that social distancing!
