Andrew Scheer calls on Ottawa to stop carbon tax increase amid COVID-19 pandemic

Speaking in Regina Wednesday morning, federal Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer called on Ottawa to stop the carbon tax increase scheduled for April 1st.

Scheer also asked the federal government to refund GST cheques collected over the past six months.

The Prime Minister has not hinted that this could become a reality as the price on pollution goes up $10.00 per tonne.

“That is the last thing Canadians need right now,” Scheer said.

Scheer told reporters that the governments response to the pandemic has been confusing and full of setbacks and delays.

Details on the feds wage subsidy program are expected to be revealed on Wednesday after a news conference with Finance Minister Bill Morneau was canceled on Tuesday.

Ottawa says they will cover the 75 percent of wages and salaries of employees pay up to $58,000.

Some believe parliament will need to be recalled to pass legislation before the program can be implemented.
