Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe once again ensured people that the measures put in place by the province to stop the spread of COVID-19 are working.
Moe said that the announcement of 14 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus on Friday, was “good news” because the curve in the province is relatively flat.
He urged residents that while the measures are working, people can not relax on the rules.
‘We can not feel safe and we for certain can not be complacent,” said Moe. “We’ve all seen what is happening in other parts of the world, and in other parts of our nation.”
The Premier shared details of the conference call held between Canada’s Premiers and Prime Minister Trudeau on Thursday. He said they discussed the need to procure more personal protective equipment for every province.
Moe berated U.S. President Donald Trump’s call for companies to shop shipping masks to Canada, calling it a “reckless direction”.
“This decision is nothing short of a betrayal of our two great nations’ shared history of working together in times of need,” said Moe. “In this time of a pandemic, it is even more important that out nations strengthen our resolve to work together to fight this unseen enemy. This enemy that we call COVID-19.”
Moe added that he will be in contact with American officials to push that they overturn their decision.
The Premier said the risk of outbreaks in seniors homes, like the ones in Quebec and Ontario, is real in Saskatchewan, and reiterated that we haven’t seen one because of the measures put in place.
He recognized that his message to keep following guidelines may have started to get monotonous, but he stressed it’s important.
“People may be getting tired of hearing me say these things, but I’m going to keep doing it,” said Moe. “I’d rather people be sick of listening to me, than sick with COVID-19.”
