Trudeau announces more funding for vulnerable people; says Canada wont retaliate against U.S. mask shipping ban

In his daily media briefing from Rideau Cottage, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced more funding aimed at helping vulnerable Canadians survive COVID-19.

He announced that 200 million dollars worth of funding is to go towards providing shelter for women fleeing violence, for Indigenous women and the homeless.

The Prime Minister added that the government has already pinpointed which communities need the funding, and the money is already on the way.

The new funding comes after Trudeau announced that $16.5 million in funding for Kids Help Phone and seniors programs conducted through United Way.

When asked if Canada would  respond to U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to tell 3M to not ship N95 masks to Canada, Trudeau said it’s in the best interests of both countries to maintain their close relationship.

Trudeau said that he would be in contact with Trump “in the coming days” to try and protect the flow of goods between the two countries, adding that he has confidence a solution will be found.
