Trudeau assures Canadians will be protected by emergency benefit

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the government will move to help more people suffering economically due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

During his daily COVID-19 update, Trudeau says in addition to those who can access the Emergency Response Benefit, extra measures will be rolled out.

“There are some people that don’t yet qualify that do need help,” stated Trudeau during his Monday address.

“If you’re working reduced hours, down to 10 hours a week or less, we will soon announce how you will be able to qualify for the CERB.”

Monday marks the first day in which Canadians who have lost their income due to COVID-19 can begin to apply for the new emergency aid benefit.

Trudeau also paused to remember the Humboldt Broncos bus accident from two years ago that left 16 people dead and 13 injured.
